What Is Plantar Fasciitis? How To Treat Heel Pain?

Plantar fasciitis is pain that presents in the heel. The pain is due to inflammation that runs along the bottom of the foot and the heel. The pain usually starts as you land your first step after resting and slowly decreases.

There are many causes of heel pain. Most often these involve excessive running and walking. Excessive running and walking can put pressure on your feet which can often lead to heel pain. The heel pain may also start due to inappropriate footwear.

Resting:

The main cause of heel pain is excessive running and walking. So halting this movement may improve the condition of the heel pain. So it is recommended to take some rest from these activities so that the pain could be managed. 

Applying Ice:

Controlling inflammation is also important for managing the pain. Applying ice to the heel can lead to a decrease in pain. The ice can be applied twice a day for about 10 to 15 minutes. Icing can be pivotal in controlling pain.

Taking Medicines:

It is important to consult a physician for management of the pain. The physician may suggest some medicines that may help relieve the pain. 

Proper Shoes:

The right shoe is quite essential for keeping your foot supported and pain-free. Any irregular and unsupportive shoe may lead to further pain in the heel.  

Stretching:

One of the measures to keep the heel pain under control is to stretch. Sometimes a device may be dispensed for keeping the foot straight and is used at night while sleeping to help stretch the achilles tendon. This may help relieve pain in the heel.
