Stress Fractures
While running, the impact of your feet on the ground can cause small cracks in the bones called stress fractures. Stress fractures can be used by repetitive activities and overuse. It usually affects the shin bone and feet. If your body is not habitual of any vigorous exercise or activity, you can get the stress fracture in your feet or ankle.
Pain gets worse as you will do any activity or even walk. When you rest pain gets better with time. Giving rest to feet in stress fracture is good as fracture heals quickly.
Symptoms usually include pain, swelling, and tenderness at the site of the fracture.
Achilles Tendonitis
Achilles tendonitis is an inflammation of the Achilles tendon, which is the tendon that connects your calf muscles to your heel bone. This is a very common injury among runners. Achilles tendonitis is the result of repetitive use of the Achilles tendon. Pain worsens in morning or with any activity. When you run too much daily and your calf muscles are tight. It can cause inflammation of Achilles tendon.
Symptoms of Achilles tendonitis include pain and stiffness along the tendon, thickening of the tendon, bone spurs, and swelling in the area.
Treatment includes icing the tendon to reduce the inflammation and swelling, giving proper rest to the calf muscles and tendon. Stretching is also very important in it to relax and lengthen calf muscles.
Ankle Sprains
Ankle sprains usually occur when the ankle is twisted, rolled, or turned beyond its normal range of motion, forcing the ligaments in the ankle to stretch beyond their limits or tear.
Symptoms can include tenderness, swelling, decreased range of motion, and instability.
Treatment includes icing to reduce the swelling and stiffness, resting or avoiding any activity. Sports injuries doctors always suggest using cold packs on the affected ankle to decrease the swelling so that pain can be decreased, and mobility can be increased. Athletes are mostly prone to it.
Plantar Fasciitis
The plantar fascia is a long ligament at the bottom of the foot that connects the heel to the front of your foot. The repetitive impact of running can cause the ligament to become inflamed, resulting in pain and stiffness at the bottom of the heel. This is called plantar fasciitis. Most patients respond extremely well to conservative care and surgery is rarely needed to relieve plantar fasciitis pain.
Symptoms include pain in the heel or sole of the foot, swelling sometimes, warmth, inability to move or walk, pain inactivity, and whenever a patient puts weight on it.
Sesamoiditis
There are two small bones called sesamoids in the underside of the foot near the big toe. Sesamoids can break or the surrounding tendons can become inflamed, causing a condition called sesamoiditis. Sesamoiditis rarely requires surgery and can be treated with conservative care. Running injuries doctors manage it conservatively mostly.
Symptoms include pain while walking or running, swelling, and inflammation.
